The Digital Leadership Specialists

Transforming Your Company into a Digital-Driven Business

The Digital Leadership 2024 Perspective

Insights from 2,138 leaders across four continents

The Progress

Digital transformation has created many breakthrough successes and efficiencies for companies. Our latest research reveals that:

  • Leading in a digital world is on the right track – Leaders are coming to terms with the many moving parts of digital transformation and starting to incorporate them into their companies.
  • Being digitally confident – Almost two out of every three leaders interviewed believe they were able to guide their organization through its digital transformation.
  • Adopting new measures – Leaders recognize the importance of creating new measures to track the value gained from digital transformation.

The Big But . . .

  • Becoming digitally detached – This year’s research across four continents identified a major gap in that C-suite and board members are overestimating the state of digital transformation implementation, potentially resulting in misalignment, poor CapEx, and inconsistent DigEx investments.
  • Missing the purpose for digital – Senior leaders have not identified the driving force behind the transformation – the customer. This is a critical stumbling block.
  • Leaders are under greater pressure to improve their digital knowledge – the ever-accelerating pace of digital transformation continues to challenge leaders to upscale themselves and adjust their leadership in guiding their organization through the transformation.

Digital Leadership Specialization with Bridges and Performance Works

In the rapidly evolving digital landscape, the transition of traditional organizations into digitally driven ones is not just a necessity, but a strategic imperative. This is at the centre of the Digital Leadership Specialist’s expertise, born out of a partnership since 2018 between Bridges and Performance Works.

The journey begins with a clear definition of your organization’s digital ambition, understanding how it impacts your customers and reshapes your business model. A critical subsequent step is realigning your leadership team to this new digital focus, steering away from outdated practices. This is the essence of the ‘Future Thinking’ phase in our Ticking Clock Model©. The Ticking Clock Model explains to leaders how the different parts of digital transformation comes together and guides their organization through its transformation.

Our commitment to guiding this digital transition has been unwavering since our partnership’s inception in 2018. In 2019, we embarked on a comprehensive study, engaging with 1,847 leaders across diverse regions to gauge the state of digital transformation. The findings were encapsulated in our white paper, “Transforming Your Company into a Digital-Driven Business.” Further research in 2024, encompassing 2,138 interviews across four continents, has refined our insights, leading to the publication of “The Digital Leadership 2024 Perspective.”

The synthesis of our research highlights three predominant causes for the failure of digital transformations, a phenomenon occurring in two-thirds of cases. These include the challenges posed by senior leadership mindsets, cultural shifts, and the need for a thorough overhaul of the business model beyond superficial digital updates.

A particularly pressing issue, identified in our 2024 research, is the digital detachment often seen in the C-Suite and board levels. While senior leaders express confidence in their organizations’ digital transformation capabilities, those closer to operational realities often voice contrary views – and with justifiable reasons.

To overcome the difficulty in deeply embedding digital transformations within organizations, We have developed the propriety model the Ticking Clock Model, based on our research and client work. It offers a structured guide through three strategic stages and 11 operational steps, ensuring a comprehensive and successful digital transformation.

A significant focus is on cultivating “Customer, Culture & Operations Centricity,” emphasizing a transformation that goes beyond mere aesthetic updates to digital platforms and fundamentally redefines the business model and its value to customers.

The concluding strategic phase is about maintaining a stance of being “Future Ready,” continuously adapting and evolving to keep pace with the ever-changing digital world.

Playbook

The Digital Leadership Playbook

To assist leaders in transforming their organization from traditional to digital Jeremy Blain and Robin Speculand co-authored The Digital Leadership Playbook – A Step-By-Step Model.

Jeremy and Robin discussing some of the key messages from the research

“Strategy is about making the right choices. Implementation is about taking the right actions.”

“Strategy can be defined as the thinking and implementation as the doing.”

“Leaders are guilty of repeating the same implementation mistakes they have previously made.”

“Knowing and taking the right actions move organizations from strategy creation to strategy implementation.”

“You can outsource the crafting of a strategy but not its implementation.”
